The gardens opened in 1999. Three-dozen countries from around the world contributed cultural exhibits. Impressive tracts of colorful flowers, changing from time to time, greet the visitor. Entrance is free. Reached by Kunming Metro line 5.
On the outskirts, a cable car (fee) climbs the hill to Golden Temple, another famous Kunming park.
Strolling the expansive gardens can easily fill the better part of a day. You’ll see Chinese-style gardens and greenhouses, ponds and temples. Climb up to the top of Golden Temple for a great view of Kunming. —Maggie Rauch at GoKunming.com
