News of the closure came from a press release published by Shangri-La Haba Snow Mountain Ecotourism Development Co., Ltd. The reason given was to “…standardize ecotourism activities such as climbing and hiking on Haba Snow Mountain and jointly safeguard its ecological safety … and the current forest fire prevention situation”.

Local residents of Haba Village have confirmed the closure, which officially began on October 21, 2025. They inform that monitors are in place on all major trails to prevent unauthorized entry. Authorized entry will continue for permitted scientific study, but hikers and climbers will be denied access.
