Tiger Leaping Gorge

Tiger Leaping Gorge

Overview

Overview

The walk through Tiger Leaping Gorge, one of the top treks in China, offers a wondrous experience. Deep down inside, the Jinsha River roars and foams, her waters originating in Tibet on a journey that ends at the Pacific Ocean. Above the tumultuous flow, twin brother snow peaks Haba and Jade Dragon soar to the heavens.

The trek begins at Qiaotou Town (桥头镇) and leads high above the river for 23 km before reaching the normal terminus at Tina’s Guest House (中峰国际青年旅舍). The gorge may be traversed in either direction. Strong hikers can complete the trek in one day, but most spend one or two nights at guest houses within the gorge. Hiring a trekking guide is not necessary for most people.
